ATTITUDE CAN KEEP YOU FROM ATTITUDES
The law of
“Reciprocity” is applicable in almost every facet of life if not all. What you
give is what you get. Attitude is your predisposition and reaction towards an
idea or individual which is birthed from your perception, orientation, and
thought process. simply put, your attitude sums up your personality.
Most times the
reactions gotten from people are impressions they have had based on previous
interactions, perceptions or similar experiences, and stereotypes. Often times,
it could be that you are both having a bad day or some people are just blessed
with an attitude problem but you can’t let that bother you or ruin your day. A
fight cannot occur without two angry people, you don’t have to be the angry
one. You can sway bad energy with good.
·
Work on Your Emotional Intelligence:
yes your emotional intelligence, first of all what is emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence is your ability to become self aware and in control of
the expression of your emotions and intra-personal relationship, this is what
constrains you from reacting irrationally or giving someone a piece of their
own cake. Emotional intelligence embodies self awareness: knowing your
strength, weakness and impact on others, self regulation: controlling and
managing disruptive impulses and reactions, empathy: understanding other
people’s emotional make up and knowing just how to relate with them, social
skill: having a good relationship with others which will enable you steer them
towards achieving a desired result. How do you work on your emotional
intelligence? Remove yourself from the
scenario, focus on the problem, see it from the other person’s perspective, and
lastly address the issue like you would like to be addressed without offending
the other person and also correcting their wrong.
·
Focus
on the Big Picture: can you get angry at
someone issuing you a million dollar Cheque? No matter how annoying they are? Well, the answer from me is NO; you won’t do
that because there is a million dollar in the picture. Imbibe that attitude in any situation, where
ever it may be, formal or informal setting, ignore the tantrums and focus on
what you are there to achieve. This will keep your cool, intact and give you positive
results. To go farther in life you must learn to filter situations you attend
to, weigh its cons, the outcome of your reaction and how beneficial it is to
you before you put on a show.
·
Master Your Body Language: you could be
saying nice words and keeping still but your body language could sell you out, people
pay attention to your expressions when they talk to you. I would advise you to master your body
language so you don’t flip different switches at a time, you are saying one
thing but your body language is saying another. Now I am not saying you should pretend,
always take a time out to get yourself together, a deep breath would do or you
excuse yourself and take time out to re-energize but whatever you do, let your
actions and your words be in sync.
